In his seventh season at the Bombers the 25-year-old defender played all 23 games in 2014 averaging 19 disposals and 8 marks a game.
His strength overhead continues to be a hallmark of his game, ranking second in competition for marks at the end of the home and away season.
Heppell was named in the midfield after a season in which he joined the competitions elite and put his name among the favourites for this year’s Brownlow Medal.
The 22 year old started the season across halfback before making the move into the midfield and becoming the Bombers most dominant performer.
He missed just two matches through injury, averaging 28.5 disposals from his 21 matches.
The leadership abilities of the young gun shone out when captain Jobe Watson went down with injury as Heppell led his team to victory on numerous occasions.
He finished fourth in the AFL players association MVP awards and was named captain for the second successive year of the 22under22 side.
Heppell finished the season with the most tackles of any Bomber with 99 for the season to go along with an average of 5 tackles, 5 clearances and 12 contested possession per game.
The pair was the only Essendon players announced in the initial 40-man squad released by the league a fortnight ago. Hooker and Heppell will now line up in the Australian side to take on Ireland in the International Rules test to be played in Perth on November 22.
