Essendon assistant coach Nathan Bassett is excited about the depth on the club’s list ahead of the 2014 season.
Just two months into his new role as the club’s forward line coach, Bassett has been impressed by what he has observed from the Bombers.
“We have got some terrifically exciting players to work with,” Bassett said.
“We have Carlisle, Bellchambers and Daniher among the tall forwards, then we obviously have some pretty handy small forwards in Chapman, Winderlich and Zaharakis who can go through that area of the ground.”
“It’s a very good list and there is a lot of potential there.”
The former Adelaide defender said it had taken some time to adjust to being an assistant after being Norwood’s senior coach since 2010.
“That’s the biggest adjustment for me – going from a bigger picture role to now more focused and working with my forward group.”
“We’re probably looking to simplify our ball movement a little bit, but looking at last year, we certainly play an exciting style of footy.”
Bassett recently joined a contingent of players on a high altitude camp in Boulder Colorado where he instantly noticed the bond among the playing group.
“There was a lot of work involved – the guys survived it pretty well really.”
“Living in close quarters, long flights, cold conditions – but the guys have a good rapport with each other and you can see they all get along well.”
Join the Bomber army today as we strive for 60,000 members in 2014.
