One of the great privileges of playing at Essendon is club’s annual involvement in the genuine blockbuster games and across my time at the club the Dreamtime at the G’ match has definitely grown into of these games.

To play a game of football that supports and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture seems an easy thing to do. We take this very seriously to support our club mates.

Having previous champions don the sash of the likes of Long, Rioli and Wanganeen, to current day stars like Ryder, Dempsey and Jetta is a special part of the Essendon Football Club culture.

To see the joy and importance that our Indigenous team mates place on this game really inspires and motivates the whole team to get up for them and play with passion but also have respect for those who come before us.

I enjoy the fact that there is a massive Indigenous community turnout at the game each year, as it feels like a game that is accessible to the broader community and a real meeting place and fun atmosphere. Not to mention a vocal Bomber and Tiger army to capacity at the MCG.

Outside of ANZAC Day and the Grand Final, the Dreamtime at the G’ clash is the biggest game in the competition, and hopefully in 2014 Essendon get to play in all 3.
