Essendon and Port Adelaide legend Gavin Wanganeen joined the boys in the rooms after their two-point victory over Port Adelaide Saturday night.
It was somewhat of a weird evening for Wanganeen with considerable history at both clubs, yet he was happy with the Bombers win.
“Yeah look it was a great game of footy tonight, very tight for most of the game and a close finish,” he said.
“For me playing for both clubs and being a premiership player there - I can’t lose either way. It was a great win by the boys.”
“It’s always great to come and watch footy here and great to see my old team and the Bombers have a good win.”
Part of the 1993 premiership team, along with a Brownlow medal in the same year Wanganeen was elected the 19th best player of all time in the ‘Champions of Essendon’ selected in 2002.
“I look back at my time at Essendon with fond memories and memories I’ll never forget,” said Wanganeen.
“I had a great time at the club from the age of 17-23 and 127 games, a premiership, a Brownlow so I’ve got a rich history there at the Essendon football club and its something I’m very proud of.”
Wanganeen hinted his son, Tex, now 10-years-old and part of the James Hird Academy, may one day follow his footsteps and don the sash for the Bombers.
“He loves both of the sides and in particular he loves his Bombers.”
