After an injury interrupted 2014, Essendon ruck man Tom Bellchambers is hoping to hit the ground running in the upcoming season.
The big man struggled to find consistent form being kept on the sideline after an ankle injury kept him sidelined for much of 2014.
However, it’s all different for Bellchambers this pre-season as he sets primes himself for a big 2015.
Easing into the pre-season on a modified plan, Bellchambers has been on full training duties for the last three weeks with reassuring results.
“It’s been real positive,” Bellchambers said
“My ankle is coping really well with the load and Im really happy with where it’s at.”
Pre-season has been given the top priority by Bellchambers as he looks to return as one of the premier ruckman of the competition.
“My one goal was to tick off 100% of pre-season and so far that’s going to plan.”
“It’s good to be ticking off these sessions up until Christmas and then give myself a good platform for January/February.”
Bellchambers has enjoyed the added support from new Essendon recruits Jonathan Giles and Shaun McKernan.
“It’s good to work with them and see what they really know,” Bellchambers said
“It’s great to have that bit of competition.”
After kicking 27 goals in 2013, Bellchambers hopes Essendon’s new talls can add some support up forward.
The big men have also benefitted from the expertise of premiership player Steve Alessio, who has been sharing his knowledge out on the track.
“Steve has been really good, he has a wealth of knowledge. He played a long time and he has been really good at just refining our technique.”
