Key pair Michael Hurley and Courtenay Dempsey are expected to be fit to line up in Saturday night’s clash against GWS at Spotless Stadium.

Dempsey rolled his ankle in Saturday night’s win over the Tigers and continued to play out the match however is expected to take his place in the side to tackle the Giants.

“There are no concerns there, he just rolled his ankle,” club doctor Bruce Reid said.

“Sometimes when you tear the ligament at the front of your ankle, you have a bleed so he will have compression, stay off it for 24 hours and then train tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Hurley was a late withdrawal from the team that defeated Richmond on Saturday night after suffering back spasms.

The key defender will undergo testing at training throughout the week to prove his fitness for this weekend’s match.

“Michael had a back spasm late in the week and while there is nothing major there he couldn’t afford to go into the game,” Reid said.

“We made the decision to pull him out 24 hours before.

“We haven’t really made him do anything from Saturday up until now so we expect him to be right for this week.”

Jackson Merrett (hand) and Marty Gleeson (quad) are expected to spend the next few weeks on the sidelines after suffering minor injuries.

“Jackson was a bit unlucky at training - the ball landed right on the tip of his finger and he has a small crack,” Reid said.

“It will cost him one or two weeks at this stage.

“Marty has a minor strain in his quad that occurred at training so he is going to miss a couple which is bad luck for him too.”

The news is better for Kyle Hardingham who could be in contention to line up against the Giants if he can prove he has overcome back bruising suffered in the club’s Round 8 VFL game against Sandringham.

“It was nine days ago he got a knee in the back and had a bleed around his scapula so he is doing fine.”

“Hopefully he plays this week but if not, we would expect him to play the week after.”
