Essendon Football Club past players and officials association held their annual dinner at Windy Hill on Wednesday night with a focus celebrating the 1984 and 1924 premierships.
The theme of the night was to recognise the 30th anniversary of the 1984 Premiership Team and the 90th anniversary of the 1924 Premiership win.
Premiership captain Terry Daniher was MC on the night with Steve Allison the entertainment.
Plenty of former Premiership Bombers were in attendance including Ken Fraser, Mark Harvey and Barry Capuano.
Essendon’s 1984 premiership win came with a famous 24-point victory against Hawthorn in a game full of stories. It was a grand final rematch from the season before when the result was reversed by 84 points.
Mid way through the second quarter Essendon trailed by as much as 32 points before Paul Weston was moved from defence to centre half forward to great impact in the third quarter.
The Bombers were within 23 points heading into the final change before a last quarter surge led by Leon Baker saw the lead swing the way of the red and black. Two final quarter goals to Tim Watson sealed the result and one of the best comeback victories in the club’s history.
The 1924 Premiership was a different one for the club with the league choosing to decide the premier through a round robin finals series.
The competition exsisted of nine teams with the top four at the end of the season playing off in a three week round robin tournament with the top team named the premiers.
Essendon finished with two wins and a percentage of 142.74 to finish the 1924 premiers before the league reverted back to the Argus finals system.
