Essendon forward Orazio Fantasia will undergo fitness testing this week to determine his availability for the Bombers’ clash with Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.

The 24-year-old has overcome a low-grade quad strain and will train for the remainder of the week before the club makes the selection call.

“Orazio is tracking really well. He’s now coming into his third week of rehabilitation following that low-grade quad strain,” head of medical services David Rundle said.

“To date, he hasn’t missed a beat, so we expect him to be integrating into training this week and we’ll make those decisions at the end of the week as to whether he’s available for Sunday’s match.”

In more positive news for the Bombers, Rundle said there was a relatively "clean bill" of health following the side’s victory over the Swans in round two.

“It was a unique situation travelling up to Sydney and playing a game and then travelling back all in the same day,” he said.

“The boys have pulled up really well and it’s a credit to them for how they approached the game. It was very professional, and we look forward to a good week of training this week.”

Emerging ruckman Sam Draper will be available for full training this week after overcoming a 12-month rehabilitation program from his ACL injury.

“As I mentioned last week, Sam is in really good shape. He’s been training with the group for last four weeks (non-contact) and at the same time has been doing contact progressions which is really pleasing. He’s now available to train with the full group before we reintroduce him to match play," Rundle said.

Rundle said youngster Kobe Mutch had sustained a fracture in his wrist in a training incident last week which saw the 22-year-old also treated for concussion.

“At the end of the main skills session on Friday, Kobe had a collision with another player and was unfortunately concussed and in the same incident he fractured his wrist,” he said.

“He saw an orthopaedic surgeon today and will have surgery in the coming days so that will probably mean he’s out of action for the next four weeks.”

Meanwhile, Noah Gown has reintegrated into main training after overcoming a foot injury, but experienced a minor setback last week.

“Noah has been tracking really well and integrating back into main skills sessions, although last week he had a problem with his lower back which kept him out of action for the week," Rundle said.

"We expect him to integrate into the group this week. He’s feeling better from his back point of view.”
