A new look Essendon forward line has helped the Bombers to an impressive NAB Challenge win against Carlton.
In John Worsfold’s first pre-season game in charge and the first time a host of new players have represented the Club, the Dons manufactured 22 scoring shots compared to Blues' 12.
Joe Daniher ended the match with three goals and seven marks.
He was ably supported by Conor McKenna, Ryan Crowley and fellow tall Sam Grimley.
“It was great, obviously a good win - bit scrappy but that is obviously expected in NAB one,” Grimley said.
“He’s (Daniher) obviously a key target up forward. That synergy will come – hopefully we play together for most of the year.
“The other boys in the forward line played a pivotal role – but Joey was great today."
Grimley kicked one major from his five shots at goal and proved a capable target in attack, launching himself at several forward entries.
“It’s a really young group - we’ll have a look at the vision during the week and just learn from today,” Grimley said.
“Even though it’s a NAB Cup game you still learn from it and take something away from every game.”
The Bombers were missing a number of players who may come in to the side for next week’s match against Geelong including Mark Baguley, Adam Cooney, Jayden Laverde and James Kelly.
“We’ve got a six day break so the emphasis is on recovery and (we) look forward from here,” Grimley said.
