Award-winning Aboriginal singer song-writer Dan Sultan will feature as the headline act at The Long Walk Wellbeing Concert on 31 May at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne.
The free Wellbeing Concert will be held after the charity Long Walk Fun Walk around the ’Tan and is part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of The Long Walk.
Sultan has just released his latest album Blackbird to critical acclaim.
He has won two Deadly Awards 2010 (Best Male Artist, Best Single for Letter), two AIR Awards 2010 (Best Independent Artist and Best Independent Blues & Roots Album), two ARIA awards for Best Blues & Roots Album (Get Out While You Can) and Male Artist of the Year 2010.
Sultan is the second Indigenous performer to take out this award trifecta (Deadly, AIR & ARIA), after Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.
Casey Donovan, Urthboy, Radical Son, Ellie Lovegrove and Maupower are also part of the line-up.
Nine aspiring and innovative Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians who were part of the Bunjil Music Business Project, a collaborative project with Mushroom Records, will also perform.
The Bunjil Music Project artists launched a collaborative track Change Gon’ Come which has received 1000 views on YouTube since March this year. This recording features all nine artists and the song sends a positive message by combining the personal stories of each participant.
The Bunjil Music Business Project was a five-month pilot program in Melbourne, initially the brainchild of Carl Gardiner from Mushroom Records, the program grew from collaboration with Indigenous Hip Hop projects and Nathan Lovett-Murray’s Payback Records.
The Long Walk is a charity inspired by Essendon footballer Michael Long’s 2004 walk to Canberra, to get the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people back on the national agenda.
