Indigenous artist Nathan Patterson designed the jumper Essendon will wear this Saturday in the Dreamtime clash against Richmond.
Essendon Football Club, together with official on-field supplier Adidas, unveiled the jumper last week.
Patterson is a Wagiman from the Northern Territory.
Here, Nathan explains his inspiration behind the design.
“In the design I wanted to talk about Essendon’s enduring support of indigenous communities.
“The main part of the design I’ve done featuring The Long Walk.
“It highlights the ripple effect this has had not only in bringing together our Aboriginal communities but also in reconciling Indigenous Australia and non-Indigenous Australia walking together.
“I thought that was a really important part of the design that needed to be talked about.
“There is also meeting places around … footprints… and they are the Aboriginal communities.
“It’s going to be a proud moment for me to see them walking out on to the ground with my design.
“It will be a proud moment for all Indigenous Australians.”
