The Tiwi Bombers have made a disappointing straight-sets finals exit after falling to Southern Districts at TIO Stadium on Saturday.

The Crocs – led by a dominant seven-goal performance from Ed Barlow – were too strong for Tiwi throughout the contest, drawing clear to take the semi-final by 40 points.

Evergreen forward Austin Wonaeamirri was the Bombers’ best forward, booting three goals to finish the season with 35 majors, while Rodney Baird, Jack Monigatti, David Kruse and Ashton Hams toiled hard in the loss.

The game followed a tough match-up with St Mary’s a week earlier in the qualifying final where the in-form Saints flexed their muscles.

The Bombers trailed by just 13 points at the final change before St Mary’s kicked into gear with a five-goal term to claim a strong 31-point victory. Wonaeamirri was among the scorers with two goals, while Simon Munkara was at his best with three of his own.

The Saints backed up their efforts with a sensational 26-point win over Nightcliff in Saturday’s second semi-final, inflicting the Tigers’ second loss of the season to book a spot in the grand final.

Following the weekend’s loss, the Bombers announced their 2019/20 award winners with Jason Puruntatameri claiming his second-straight best and fairest award.

The silky Bomber was named among the side’s best players in 14 of his 18 matches this season as he carried his form on from his sensational 2018/19 campaign.
