Slattery sidelined
It has been a bittersweet 10 days for improving young Bomber Henry Slattery. Firstly, the 19-year-old made his debut against St Kilda and played a key role in the victory. But the fall out from the game has been more significant than first thought with scans today revealing he has a strained calf and he will miss the next three weeks. With Slattery ruled out and Hille suspended, it will be tough at the selection table this week.
It was initially thought that Slattery had some soreness in the calf following his first game and that he would improve enough to play last weekend against the Kangaroos. However his condition had not improved significantly and he underwent scans on the injury yesterday which revealed the strain.
With Slattery ruled out and Hille suspended, the Essendon match committee will have a tough time of it at the selection table this week. Tristan Cartledge would seem certain to get a recall to the senior side to partner Jason Laycock in the ruck while Kepler Bradley may well earn a recall having played very well for Bendigo on the weekend.
The Essendon and Richmond football clubs today officially launched ‘Dreamtime at the G’ – a tribute to the contribution the Indigenous community has made to the game of Australian Rules football. It is envisaged this tribute match will become an annual celebration played between the two sides whose colors make up the aboriginal flag. ""This game has the capacity to have the significance of Anzac Day,"" Kevin Sheedy said.
