The Bendigo Bombers snuck into the top eight last week for the first time this season. The team’s inclusion in top half of the ladder came at the expense of Frankston. With only three home and away games remaining every match is crucial – five teams currently sitting on seven wins and all are competing for the four remaining positions in the top eight. Therefore Frankston will be looking to keep its finals aspirations alive this Sunday when they take on Bendigo.

Frankston took the honours against Bendigo in Round 5 by 31-points. However, the Bombers are much improved since then and are currently on a six game winning streak.Their most recent scalp was the Northern Bullants last Sunday. In blustery conditions at Cramer Street oval, Bendigo got across the line by four points. Ken Hall was best on ground with 27 disposals and four goals in difficult conditions.

The team has had a number of consistent performers throughout the season and coach Peter Banfield will be hoping these players can continue to fire coming into the finals period. “Cory McGrath has been one of our key contributors. Week in week out he puts in 110% and is a good influence on our younger players. Last week he was sensational through the mid-field,” Banfield said.

McGrath and Hall have both earned a senior call up this weekend. For McGrath it is another chance to prove himself in senior ranks and for Hall the opportunity to cement a spot on the senior list after being promoted from the rookie list yesterday. Both have been named in the squad of 26 and will find out after training this afternoon if they will front up against the Bulldogs on Sunday at the Dome or make the journey down to Frankston for the VFL match.
