It won’t just be family by Brendon Goddard’s side when he takes to the field for his 300th game this Saturday against GWS.
Goddard will fulfil a promise when Will Murray enters the ground alongside the Bombers best and fairest winner.
Murray was a talented junior footballer before an accident at a local beach left the teenager a quadriplegic last year.
“I made a promise that if he attacks his rehab and has a positive attitude he could come on to the field with me in my 300th game,” Goddard said.
“Will really struck a chord with me because of the footy connection.
“It immediately dawned on me that his dream to play AFL had been taken away from him because of the accident.
“I thought if I could help fulfil his AFL dream just a little bit and get him involved in the build-up to an AFL game it would be quite special.
“Will is a special kid with a great attitude and he’s got a great family behind him.”
To help raise money for Will’s foundation, Goddard, in partnership with Essendon’s Official Headwear Partner, New Era, is auctioning ten limited edition commemorative hats.
All proceeds go to Will’s foundation.
