Essendon coach John Worsfold says the club has had enough time to review his side’s disappointing ANZAC Day loss to Collingwood and still prepare sufficiently for the Bombers’ crucial clash against Melbourne on Sunday.
Worsfold said the team understands why it underperformed against the Magpies and he is confident the Bombers can return to their best.
“We’ve had a good, solid look at why we underperformed against the Pies and what we could have done better and we’re all very clear on that,” he said on Friday.
“It’s disappointing, but life is about learning and using those learnings to make sure we’re a better unit going forward and we use that to our advantage.”
Worsfold said it was important to accept that there will be bumps along the road as the club commits to ultimate success.
“We’ll have some other learnings along the way, but if we don’t use those to help us get better each time then we’re going nowhere.
“We’ve learnt a lot and we’re committed to what we’ve learnt to make us better.”
The Demons have also been restricted to a short turnaround after their heavy loss to Richmond on Tuesday night where they disappointed for a second-straight week.
While not in its peak form, Melbourne is dangerous at its best and Worsfold said he expects a strong challenge this weekend.
“We see Melbourne as a team that quite rightly expects to challenge for the (top) eight this year and they’re still in that position where they can and that means they’re a very formidable opponent,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to playing our footy against another really good side and matching up (and) giving it our best crack to see how we go.”
