In summary, his previous poor record means his one match sanction must remain at one match even with an early plea.
The Match Review Panel said:
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the West Coast Eagles, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of three matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 30 per cent to 181.25 points and a one-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 135.94 points and a one-match sanction.
Hocking’s charge follows his recent three-week suspension for a level-five striking offence against the Brisbane Lions’ James Polkinghorne earlier in the season.
The club has until midday tomorrow to decided whether or not to challenge the charge.
The match day report laid against West Coast Eagles’ Beau Waters for rough conduct against Essendon’s Jobe Watson was assessed. Watson and Waters were running in opposite directions towards a loose ball. Watson gathers the ball first and turns towards Waters who arrives at the contest. It was the view of the panel after reviewing all the video evidence and speaking with the field umpire that the contact made by Waters was not a bumping action and the high contact was accidental and not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
Key forward Stewart Crameri will undergo scans in the next 24 hours, after dislocating his right shoulder during Essendon’s 57 point loss against West Coast on Saturday. General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said the club’s current leading goal kicker will see a shoulder specialist in the next day to determine the full extent of the injury.
