At the time of the incident, Hibberd was suspended indefinitely by the club and later suspended for the remainder of season, including finals, after being charged with assault. Hibberd lost approximately $20,000 in earnings during his suspension.
In addition to the sanction handed out by the court, Hibberd has participated in a number of sessions with a psychologist and undertaken community service work through the AFLPA’s Ladder program.
Hibberd said he was extremely remorseful for his actions and has offered a verbal and written apology to those involved.
“I would like to apologise for my actions and the effect they have had on everyone involved,” Hibberd said.
“I deeply regret my behaviour - it was unacceptable and I will learn from these events to ensure something of this nature never happens again.
“I now look forward to working hard over the pre-season and earning back my spot in the senior team.”
The club will make no further comment on the matter.
