The Essendon Football Club today announced that - as of this morning - it has a record 38,953 members.

That figure is 3,590 members up on the same time last year.

The previous Essendon record tally was 38,904 members set in 2001, following the 2000 Premiership.

“I am thrilled to announce that the 2008 ‘My Club’ campaign has attracted the highest membership tally in the history of the club,” Managing Director, Peter Jackson, said.

“This result is a credit to our loyal fans and also the hard work of the players and staff at the Essendon Football Club.

“I believe our supporters are enjoying seeing our young, developing list play exciting football and they have joined up in huge numbers.

“The club has gone through a considerable period of change in recent times but one thing that hasn’t changed is the passion our fans have for this club and we thank them for their support in 2008.”

The break-down of Essendon’s 2008 membership result is 34,438 match-day members and 4,515 non match-day memberships

Essendon is confident of attracting the 1,047 members to break the 40,000 mark and is calling on the 5,031 members that haven't renewed from last season to get onboard in 2008.
