Dustin Fletcher has officially launched ‘Fletch’ – a book documenting his rise through the AFL.
The 400 game player has spent the last two years recounting his experiences.
“It was actually a bit harder than I thought to actually sit down and write a book, but it turned out alright,” he said.
Fletcher began his career alongside a number of other teenagers who would become decorated Essendon players.
“Starting as a 17 year old and having the likes of (Joe) Misiti, ‘Mercs’ (Mark Mercuri), guys around my age, playing finals and in a premiership was pretty special,” he said.
“It was always about striving to be your best and playing finals.
“I learnt a fair bit off Sheeds because I was growing up at that time."
Sheedy coached Fletcher for the bulk of his career and said he gave the defender some of football’s toughest assignments in the early stages of his career.
“This young man has really played on the great era of full-forwards,” Sheedy said.
“When you’ve got Lockett and you’ve got Kernahan and Dunstall and Carey and all these blokes coming through.
“This guy probably did the hardest Year 12 of any full-back, or any player, in the history of the AFL.”
