John Worsfold admits he’s looking forward to reap the benefits of coaching a Melbourne-based club.
Worsfold says he’s eager to spend more ‘quality family time’ at home after travelling almost every second week whilst coaching West Coast for 12 seasons.
“One of the really strong things was about the balance of my family,” Worsfold said.
“Talking to my wife who has been brilliantly supportive of me for a 20 year AFL career based out of the west – obviously the travel commitments are pretty massive.”
The Bombers travelled interstate just five times this season as opposed to West Coast and Fremantle, who travelled 10 times each.
“You have a lot more quality family time as a coach of a Melbourne based club which was sort of highlighted to me even over the weekend by Chris Scott (Geelong Coach) when he said you won’t know yourself coaching a team based over here.”
Worsfold first got a taste of Melbourne life in 1999 when he spent some time as an Assistant Coach as Carlton.
“When I moved to Melbourne the first time, we had one daughter who was three-and-a-half years old, she’s now 18 and I’ve got two other kids.
“It will be a different lifestyle, but we’ve really loved our time in Melbourne.”
