Essendon Football Club continues to offer exciting new experiences to Melbourne’s Indian community as a feature of its widely regarded ‘Embracing India’ strategy.
In 2014, as an industry first, Essendon Football Club created the Gurdwara Auskick Centre at Craigieburn’s Sikh Temple, offering opportunities for young Indian girls and boys to participate in Australian Rules football and meet Bomber stars.
On Wednesday evening members of the Auskick Centre were warmly welcomed to the True Value Solar Centre for a tour and insight into the world of an AFL football club.
Head of Community Cameron Britt said that the initiative was important for both the game and for the wider community.
“We have boldly set out to cement Essendon Football Club as the sporting club of choice for Melbourne’s vibrant and rapidly growing Indian community. By engaging youth and families, we are providing important opportunities for social inclusion and connectivity, as well as creating new Bomber fans in Melbourne’s north-west region” Britt said.
Essendon will play an Embracing India themed round later in the 2015 season, and will officially launch its documentary shot across India in October 2014, featuring Dyson Heppell, David Zaharakis, Joe Daniher and Zach Merrett.
