Alex Browne will play his first game for Essendon in two and a half years when the Bombers take on Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday.

Browne has been averaging 22 possessions a game in the VFL after undergoing a knee reconstruction last year.

“It’s just good for Alex to get a chance,” Essendon Coach James Hird said.

“He’s been out of action for over two years now.

“He’s worked very hard and deserves the opportunity.”

Browne was selected by the Bombers with the 48th selection in the 2010 National Draft.

The former Oakleigh Charger made his debut against Melbourne in 2011.

He played two games that year and then featured in the final six matches of the 2012 season.

Browne and Heath Hocking will bolster an Essendon midfield missing Jobe Watson.
