Essendon knows it must make the most of its opportunities in front of goal when it meets Adelaide tomorrow.
The Bombers are coming off a 32-point loss to GWS last week.
Despite controlling much of the first half, the side was unable to take full advantage on the scoreboard.
“I thought against GWS we controlled the game for at least a half and didn’t convert on the scoreboard which is frustrating, but that can happen,” Essendon Coach James Hird said.
“It’s probably happened too much to us this year.”
The Bombers are ranked 16th for scoring and 12th for inside 50’s.
“In the first half last week we had a lot of forward 50 entries,” Hird said.
“Yes we haven’t been able to score, but a lot of that has been inaccuracy in front of goal.”
Cale Hooker and Joe Daniher are set to again spearhead the Essendon attack.
While at the other end of the ground the defence will be kept busy by one of the best forward lines in the competition.
Eddie Betts (44) and Taylor Walker (41) are both in the top ten goalkickers in the AFL this season.
“It would be a fantastic challenge for Jake Carlisle to go to Taylor Walker,” former Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd said.
“I think they’ve got a perfectly balanced forward line that if the midfield gets on top they’re pretty hard to stop.”
Lloyd said the Bombers will need to ensure they convert their opportunities early to give themselves the best chance of beating the Crows.
“If the Bombers can hit them hard early, put some scoreboard pressure which we haven’t been able to do in recent weeks at Etihad, we’re every chance,” he said.
“On paper they’re a really strong side playing for finals football so it’s going to be a really strong challenge.”
