Hundreds of excited students gathered at Windy Hill last week as part of the Australia Post Multicultural Primary Schools Cup.
A staggering 58 nations were represented by boys and girls from 11 schools, accumulating in to 16 teams, across Metropolitan Melbourne.
Essendon was represented by Our Lady’s Primary School from Craigieburn, who claimed the Cup in the boy’s division. St Matthews Primary School from Fawkner also represented Essendon in the girls division, but were knocked out in the group stage. Our Lady's PS were undefeated going in to the final game, however were seven points down at half time before coming back in the second half to secure victory.
The event is part of the Australia Post Multicultural Schools Program – an initiative to bring students of various cultural backgrounds together to participate and learn the skills of Australia’s game, as well as supporting and celebrating diversity.
The Multicultural Primary Schools Cup follows a similar competition that involved secondary schools earlier this month.
