Bomber defender Tayte Pears is set to make his return from injury and will be a welcome inclusion to the round-one side.
VFL coach Skipworth not overplaying the big-man’s return, admitting he will be content for Pears do the carry out simple things well this weekend.
“We don’t expect a lot from him, he’s missed a lot of footy, still we expect him to compete and for his effort to be really high,” Skipworth said.
“He will be on some sort of game-time restrictions throughout the match, and hopefully he can get through unscathed, get a few kicks and build his confidence over the next few weeks."
Skipworth says he expects nothing less than a bruising encounter on Sunday, as the Bombers travel south to face the Sandringham Zebras at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
“They’ve got a very good list of players, two notably being Mitch Brown and Clint Jones who obviously spent some time here in the pre-season.”
“They’re very strong, and they’ve got some mature bodies in the midfield.”
Still, Skipworth reiterated his desire for the team to maintain the messages instilled throughout the pre-season to stick to the structures this weekend.
“But like always it’s more about us in getting our game plan going and getting our young kids up and firing and pushing for senior selection.”
In an exciting first, Bomber fans will be able to listen to every VFL away match this season, broadcast live online– accessible via desktop or mobile.
Skipworth acknowledged the positive move, which will increase the access to the VFL team, making it easier for fans to follow along in 2015.
“It’s fantastic, all away games will be broadcast this year. All the fans can follow the young kids as well as the guys returning from injury and hopefully they can get a better insight into how we’re going.”
