Tom Bellchambers is fit again and ready to try to re-establish the Essendon ruck combination as one of the game’s best.
The 26 year old was restricted to ten games in 2015 as knee and foot problems derailed his season.
But those injuries have fully healed allowing the ruckman to join in full training.
“I’m feeling really good, I’ve been able to complete all of the training sessions out here which is a real bonus for me,” he said.
“Last year I was missing sessions and in the altitude room, so it’s actually good to be out on the track with the boys.”
Bellchambers was at his best in 2013 when he averaged 22 hit outs per game and kicked 28 goals.
His combination with Patrick Ryder made Essendon the fourth best centre clearance side in the competition.
But Bellchambers’ absence and the departure of Ryder ahead of the 2015 season saw the side’s centre clearance rate slide to 15th.
This season Bellchambers will partner former Brisbane ruckman Matthew Leuenberger.
“Obviously Luey has had some injuries as well,” Bellchambers said.
“He and I are both out on the track now and we’ll get to know each other’s games and hopefully we can form a good duo like Paddy and myself.
“If I can get forward and sneak a couple of goals, that would be nice as well.”
New Coach John Worsfold has suggested Bellchambers could spend time in the forward half and the reduction in the interchange cap may see more ruckmen sent forward.
“With the cap on interchanges rule we’ll be spending more time on the ground,” Bellchambers said.
“If I can impact the scoredboard while Luey’s doing his work in the middle of the ground that’s obviously going to help the team.”
