Essendon has made five changes ahead of Saturday's important round 13 clash against the Hawks.
McKernan, Dempsey and J.Merrett all return to the side while Winderlich and O'Brien will come in for their first game of the season.
All have been impressive in the VFL over the last few weeks and will bolster the side against an in form Hawthorn.
