Essendon won’t shy away from its 110-point loss to St Kilda according to Jobe Watson.
The Bombers conceded 15 goals to three after half time and the Captain says the performance will be closely analysed to see what went wrong.
“All you can go back to is your preparation,” Watson said.
“You watch the film and it’s not going to be pretty but sometimes that’s the reality and you need to see what you’re doing wrong.”
Normally prolific in the midfield, Watson was down on his usual output.
He gathered nine possessions and spent large parts of the match in the forward line.
“When your older guys aren’t playing well it makes it difficult for the rest of the team,” Watson said.
“At the moment, myself and the other guys in the leadership group probably aren’t playing to the level we’re expected to and required to, to help the younger guys and that’s disappointing.
“Most times when you walk off the ground and you feel like you’ve given good effort and you’ve lost, you can still walk off and know that the supporters might be proud – but I didn’t feel like we did that today.”
The Bombers have lost their last five matches and face Melbourne in six days time.
“We’re just going to continue to work hard - we know that there is no easy answer,” Watson said.
“Whenever you’re in a bad way, or have a bad loss or aren’t playing the kind of footy you’re expected or want to, hard work is really the only thing you can do to get yourself out of it.”
