Essendon's VFL side are set to welcome some added experience into the side to play Frankston on Saturday afternoon at Windy Hill.
Tom Bellchanbers and Courtenay Dempsey will suit up at VFL level as they attempt to find some form, Nick Kommer will play for his first game since 2013, while Jason Winderlich will continue to find fitness in his second consecutive VFL game.
“Hopefully we can see all those four playing some good footy,” VFL coach Paul Corrigan said.
“Obviously with ‘Licka’ in the side last week, it was like having another coach out on the ground– he’s really good for our younger guys.
“And hopefully Tommy and Demps can use their experience also, and find the ball and play some good footy.”
After a thumping win over Geelong last weekend, there has been an added emphasis on the side grasping the right mindset leading into the match against Frankston.
“We’ve got to bring a really got mindset again.
“These are the games you still want to play well in and we will have focus areas before the game on how we want to play and I’ll be making sure those messages are strong and that we follow those through each quarter of the game.”
Tayte Pears continues to impress coaches in attack as he learns his craft as a tall forward. The big-man is beginning to cause opposition defences headaches.
“We’re putting a fair bit of time into Tayte as a forward, so he will continue to spend majority of the time up there for us.
“He’s still learning a lot of stuff about the leading patterns and how to play as a forward.”
While Irish-recruit Conor McKenna has also been a revelation up forward in recent weeks, booting six goals in the last fortnight.
“I think he’s been working really hard on his game, and I think we’ve seen in the last two weeks just how powerful he is as an athlete and how many tricks he’s got also.”
With the AFL team travelling to Perth, Saturday afternoon presents itself as the perfect opportunity to get down and support the VFL side.
