The Football Woman of the Year Award presented by Chemist Warehouse recognises women who have made a significant contribution to the game of Australian football. Announced at the Liptember Grand Final Comedy Debate, the award is open to all women associated in any way with the Australian football industry. Previous winners have included Dr Sue Alberti AO, Irene Chatfield, Debbie Lee, Jill Lindsay, Belinda Durate, Michelle Cowan and 2014 winner Peta Searle.

The following are the nominees for the Professional Category, which represent the women who are remunerated for their work in football. 

Marg Richards – Football Operations and Administration, North Ballarat Football Club

From overseeing the bench on game days to managing Commercial Operations at the North Ballarat Football Club, Marg has been a trail blazer for women’s football management since 1996. Marg is forever encouraging women to engage themselves with the club which has resulted in numerous positions being filled by female staff members.

Amanda Green – GM People Culture and Performance, Richmond Football Club

Amanda has been the driving force behind the development of innovative research project Gender Equity: What will it take to be the Best. Amanda regularly advocates the key findings from this project through industry forums and conferences, identifying change that needs to be undertaken. Amanda is an inspiration to women inside and outside the AFL industry, while challenging men to be a part of the gender equality solution.

Jan Cooper – National Manager, Female Football AFL, WA

Jan has been synonymous with Female Football Development across the nation for a number of years and has had a more significant impact on the future of female players, coaches and administrators in the game than most. She publicly advocates for women to the highest level of the AFL through to the local Auskick Centre. Jan has been instrumental in changing female football from a few small leagues across the nation to being on the verge of having an elite competition.
