Essendon Football Club is delighted to announce Ben Howlett has agreed to a new two year contract.

The re-signing ends recent media speculation, with the midfielder set to remain in the red and black until the end of 2016.

The 25-year-old said he was relieved to have put pen-to-paper on the eve of a new pre-season campaign.

“I am very happy to have signed on with the club for another two years.”

“We have a really strong, close knit playing list at Essendon and we have the belief that we can play some incredibly exciting football. I love my teammates and I was keen to play under James Hird so that really motivated me to re-sign with the club." 

“Now, with my contract out of the way, I’m looking forward to focusing on football and getting back into training with the boys during the pre-season. I think we’re all excited to work really hard over the summer.”

Senior coach James Hird said Howlett is highly regarded by both the club’s coaching staff and playing group. 

“It is great news for the football club – not only for the players and coaches, but for our supporters too,” Hird said.

“Ben’s contribution to the team over the last few years should not be underrated.

“He is a tough and tenacious competitor and he is an extremely driven individual. We know his best football is ahead of him.”

Howlett, who hails from Donnybrook in Western Australia, has played 97 games and booted 47 goals since making his debut in 2010.
