Essendon Football Club is pleased to announce unrestricted free agent, David Myers, will return to the Bombers next season.

The 26 year-old has agreed to a new three year deal which will see him remain at the Club until the end of the 2019 season.

The highly sought after midfielder’s decision is a vote of confidence in the future direction of the football Club.

“I’m very proud to be a Bomber for life,” Myers said.

“Having taken some time to clear my head, the answer became pretty clear as to where my heart lies.

“Essendon has been a huge part of my life since I moved here as an 18 year-old. My teammates, the staff, members and the fans – they are all special people, and to be able to have an opportunity to put the last few years behind us and make the Club great again is something I couldn't be more excited about.

“It’s a privilege to be a part of the Essendon family, and I look forward to watching my mates over the rest of the year and rejoining them in September.”

Senior Coach, John Worsfold, said he was thrilled David had made the decision to continue his career at Essendon next season.

“We’ve got a very clear pathway for where we’re heading and David Myers will play a big part in those plans,” Worsfold said.

“David is a highly respected leader at the Club and we’re looking forward to having him back to fulfil that role. He leads by example in his passion to constantly learn and develop which is really important, particularly for our younger players.”

CEO, Xavier Campbell, said the commitment of David to the Club is a sign of the strength and resilience of the Bombers’ culture.

“David is a fantastic Essendon person and adds enormous value across all levels of the organisation. He is an incredibly important part of our future,” Campbell said.

“David can see we are building a strong team under John Worsfold and I know Essendon members and supporters are extremely happy David will be back in the red and black for the next three years.”

List and Recruiting Manager, Adrian Dodoro, said the Club remains focused on retaining all twelve players.

“David was an unrestricted free agent this year and despite offers from at least 4 other clubs, he has decided to remain a loyal Essendon player,” Dodoro said.

“He is an important part of the future of our football Club. Not only does he have the attributes to be an outstanding inside midfielder under John Worsfold, but he is a tremendous person and a great role model.”

Myers joins Cale Hooker, Travis Colyer and Heath Hocking as the fourth Bomber to recommit to the Club for the 2017 season.
