More than 400 people have celebrated the achievements of players past and present at the Essendon Football Club’s Milestones and Hall of Fame evening.
Guests were treated to stories of courage, skill and humour as those honoured recounted memories of their time in red and black.
Paul Vander Haar, Reg Burgess, Noel Allanson and Kevin Egan were inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.
Vander Haar recalled his reluctance to leave his beloved Ringwood for a crack at the VFL while Reg Burgess and Noel Allanson reflected on what it was like to play alongside Dick Reynolds, Bill Hutchison and John Coleman.
Current day players were also celebrated.
James Hird spoke about Dustin Fletcher’s 400th game milestone.
The Bombers Coach lauded the 40-year-old full back’s dependability.
Ben Howlett and Jake Melksham were recognised for their 100th game. The pair took different roads to the AFL with Howlett overlooked in several drafts before being rookie listed and Melksham a highly sought after top 10 draft pick.
Brendon Goddard rounded out the list of milestone men.
The former Saint played his 250th game earlier this season. He spoke about how he came to Essendon because he believes the club can be a consistent top four performer.
Goddard said he still maintains that belief.
