As part of the 30th anniversary of the 1984/1985 premierships, essendonfc.com.au are privileged to release a series of reflective profiles showcase showing the players who featured in those back-to-back flags – a period that remains one of the high points in the 142-year history of the Essendon Football Club.
Terry Daniher became Essendon’s 35th captain in 1983 and those leadership qualities were on show throughout the back-to-back premierships of ‘84/’85.
After establishing himself in the early stages of his career as a full-forward Daniher eventually moved up the ground to the half-forward line. He was renowned for his strong leading, great marking and accurate kicking,
Daniher played a total of 294 games in the red and black. He was a VFLPA MVP in 1983, three-time All-Australian (1983, 1985 & 1988), best and fairest winner and two-time leading goal kicker.
The premiership captain has also been named part of the Australian Football League Hall of Fame since retiring in 1992. He was also named in the Essendon Team of the Century.
