As part of the 30th anniversary of the 1984/1985 premierships, essendonfc.com.au are privileged to release a series of reflective profiles showcasing the players who featured in those back-to-back flags – a period that remains one of the high points in the 142-year history of the Essendon Football Club.
West Australian-native Bill Duckworth played 126 games for the Bombers. He is arguably still best known for his incredible North Smith Medal-winning performance in Essendon’s 1984 Grand Final win.
Lining up at fullback, Duckworth gathered 19 disposals and booted two goals, leading Essendon to a 24-point win over the Hawks.
The aggressive backman competed with a hard edge throughout his entire career. He was also one of the Bombers most versatile, possessing the ability to push up to the forward line.
Post career, Duckworth enjoyed a successful coaching career at North Beach Football Club in the West Australian Amateur League.
The premiership star won 10 premierships with North Beach throughout 16 seasons.
