Bomber fans think first year player, Cale Hooker, showed enough in his two games to suggest he could become a key member of the Essendon backline.

While the fans think the 196cm West Australian has potential they believe he has a long way to go and gave him a 4.08/10 for his 2008 report card.

Hooker, 20, was taken with pick No. 54 in 2007 national draft.

This is what some of the fans had to say about Cale Hookers’ 2008 season:

Jan Di Pietro - Still in development obviously, but I was happy with how dedicated he seems to be and how enthusiastic. Looking forward to seeing how far he can push himself.

John Poke - Cale shows lots of promise and I look forward to seeing this young man develop in the coming year.

David Street - Shows promise. Needs to build up his strength and stamina.

Danielle Gibbs - Shows promise for the future, as long as injuries are limited.

Greg Kemp - Looked ok in the games he played. Needs to muscle up a bit and could a good key defensive position player.

Alex Price - Drafted as a raw talent to hopefully mould into an AFL footballer, and it was evident in the games played. Hopefully will continue to learn and develop his skills and could become a useful key position defender.

Alan Betts - Still very raw but at least he got a taste of senior football.

Bill Griffiths - Cale seems to have some ability but there's a long way to go before he reaches AFL level.

Rod Ansell - Got his opportunity late in the year due to injuries and showed he has something to offer. Needs to build up his body and with another pre-season his reading of the game / play will improve. Needs to build on his two games and show his value to the team.

Casey Scholten - Liked his endeavour. He was in the team to early due to injury. Another season and a couple of pre-seasons could see him develop into a key defender in the future. Play him down back all year at Bendigo and get him on the weights.

Graham Flynn - Limited opportunity to show his potential. He's a real athlete and I predict a big future when his body matures and he gets more experience.

Mark Elze - Just haven’t seen enough yet of Cale. Has the height at least. Still very raw. Should have a better idea after this season as to where he is at potential wise.

Joseph Attard - Cale Hooker started the year late but didn't show much. He will develop in 2009 as a good defender.

Max Rodwell - Quite impressed with this bloke, only had a couple of games but seemed to know how to find the ball. Seemed very keen to give it off, needs to have more faith in himself when in possession, but that should come with experience, so far good results.

Scott Younes - Needs to fill out then should be a good player for us in the future.

Shaun Cahill – Simply another member of “our” promising new baby bombers that obviously we need to put the EFC back on top of the AFL ladder playing finals where we belong.

Rachael Lee Hawthorn - Cale Hooker is going to be a good player for the club looking forward to seeing him play in 2009. Good luck Cale.

Daniel Farrugia - Happy to see the boy break into the senior side, although it was mainly because of injury to others. Took a great mark and showed some promise.

Leonard Clark - Did enough in his only game, in an extremely difficult game, to indicate he could develop into a more than competent key position player. Will need to develop body over the pre-season to cope with rigours of AFL.

Julian McGuire - Needs to play on talls in 2009 so he gets the experience now, while Fletcher can still help out.

Des Ploog - Shows potential. Played as a CHF in a NAB Cup game where he presented well, knew when and where to lead and had good hands in front of his face. Disappointed that he played in defence when he got his opportunity but circumstances dictated that. Plenty of improvement to come and could be a very good player for the club in the future.

Rowan Lace - Jury is still out on Cale, but maybe he has the potential to fill a key defence post. Only time will tell.

Jezza Chau - Still got a lot of years left in him and needs to work harder but a good start to his career!! Keep up the good work!!
