The Bombers' stunning second half of football got them an important win on Friday night and the ledger now sits at seven wins and six losses.
The team is slowly starting to look like being a finals contenders if they can continue their current form so, in this week’s poll, we ask where you think the Bombers will finish on the ladder?
Last week we asked if you thought the result against Carlton would decided if the Bombers would play in the finals in 2009 and 80.40% said ‘Yes’ and 19.60% said ‘No’.
Here is what some of the fans had to say:
Nathan from Sunbury says: With crucial games against North Melbourne and Adelaide already dropped, this week and next week’s game are must wins.
Warren Miller from Western Australia says: To go head to head with old rival Carlton will be another step to see if the current group can put their best out on the big stage of a Friday night block buster at the MCG . They will have to run hard at every contest, fight for every possession and show the rest of the AFL teams that Essendon is a serious finals contender.
Joseph Attard from Taylors Hill says: If we don't beat Carlton this week. It’s just about over. This is most probably the biggest game for us this year and we cannot play like we did in the 2nd and 4th quarters against Melbourne.
Samantha from Delahey says: This game against Carlton will be a tough one. We have a 6 day break; they have a 13 day break. We need to win this one, as it should keep us in the 8 for another week. I am nervous, I am hoping we get over the line, but just don't think we will. GO DONS.
Elbows Bull from Hastings says: I would have thought that our Rd 11 loss to Adelaide has made our finals chances slimmer. I had tipped the Dons to win that one and beat the Pies and Blues to finish a game clear of the pack of teams after 8th spot. Percentage will be important, we have got to thrash a couple of teams.
Jeremy from Victoria says: Yes I believe this game is the decider. If we can beat Carlton and even Collingwood, we have cemented our spot in the eight!
Ryan Young from Vic says: The win one loose one trend will keep us in the mix for finals. If we really step up the tempo and want to make it to the finals then we need to knock over both Carlton & Collingwood, and then continue on by defeating Sydney and the Bullies in the coming weeks. The chance is there - can we take it? I say yes.
Liam from Perth says: Already beaten Carlton once and we will probably beat them again!
Ben from Berwick says: We certainly must win this game if we are any chance of playing finals considering we will most likely need to win 6 of our last 10 with tough games against Sydney in Sydney, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Doggies and St Kilda still yet to come.
Stephen Mc Ateer from Niddrie says: This is not the crunch-game, it's game one in a crunch fortnight. If we are 6 & 8 in two weeks’ time it will be very tough to get back into the 8. Also this will test us in a key problem area in our game this season - stringing multiple wins together. If we do manage to win these two we could set up a form streak which we could just about ride through to the finals. Show them we're still waiting!
