250 gamer Brendon Goddard reflected on his playing career at Saturday's 2015 Milestone and Hall of Fame Induction.
Taken with the number one selection in the 2002 National Draft by St.Kilda Goddard quickly rose through the ranks at the Saints to become an integral part of the team. The versatile player was particularly important during the Saints’ 2009 and 2010 seasons where the Saints played in back-to-back Grand Finals.
Signing with the Bombers in 2013 as a free agent, Goddard has continued to be an important part of the team on and off the field. His incredible work ethic, attention to detail and competitive nature both inspires and challenges his teammates.
Despite all the off field turmoil and controversy surrounding the club, Goddard is still proud to call himself a Bomber.
“I came to this great club because it is a great club, and of the history and because it is Essendon,” Goddard said.
“(But) I came here more so because of Hirdy and the playing list at the time.”
Well known for his desperation for success, Goddard addressed Essendon’s recent poor form and reassured fans that they will have something to look forward to very soon.
“I truly believe we’re in a position to challenge, we’re obviously struggling at the minute, but in the next couple of years we’re going to challenge for the top four and go deep into September,” said Goddard.
“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think that, and I still truly believe that.”
The Essendon Football Club would like to congratulate Brendon Goddard on reaching this milestone.
