ESSENDON is counting the cost of its courageous two-point victory over St Kilda, with three players a chance to miss the final fortnight of the home-and-away season.

Dustin Fletcher (hamstring), Courtenay Dempsey (hamstring) and Paddy Ryder (knee) are all chances to miss the last two rounds, which the Bombers must win to assure themselves a spot in the final eight.

"Maybe all three of them are probably going to miss two weeks of football," coach Matthew Knights said after the game.

"Realistically, Dempsey and Fletcher both look like they're going to be two-week hamstrings at least.

"I would have thought Ryder, who is experiencing soreness at the back of the knee ... it doesn't look like it's a bad one, but it looks like it would be at least one (week) and maybe three (weeks)."

Adding to Essendon's injury woes, midfielder Bachar Houli is only a small chance to be available again this year after suffering an injury to his tibia/fibula.

"Bachar definitely won't be available next week, and potentially not for the rest of the year, so that's really unfortunate for him because he was starting to play good footy as well," Knights said.

Knights said Kyle Reimers, who was a late withdrawal on Sunday with hamstring tightness, was a "reasonable chance" to be available for Essendon's round 21 trip to Perth to face Fremantle.

He also said Brent Stanton was likely to recover from a knock to the hip in time for the trip and that Jobe Watson, who spent long periods in the second half on the bench on Sunday, was exhausted and not injured.

"What happened with our mids was we lost at least two players going through the rotations in the second half, so therefore Andrew Welsh, Watson, Mark McVeigh, Ricky Dyson and Stanton were expected to do enormous workloads," Knights said.

"That was always going to tell at some stage, but thankfully, Jobe kept pushing along and he stepped up big-time for us. He played a wonderful game."

Knights said Matthew Lloyd (heel) and Jason Winderlich (back) were both chances to return next week after they trained well in the lead up to round 20.

"We'll look at them if they push up this week," he said.

"Apart from that, we just have to look at the VFL form of today.

"Cale Hooker played in the VFL today, so he'll come into the equation next week to give Tom Bellchambers support."

Knights said he would make the trip across the Nullarbor unconcerned about the state of the Bombers' mounting casualty ward.

"We've got 46 on our list. Even if we only had 23 available, it's the responsibility of those 23 to do the club proud and play hard," he said.

"I'm not too fussed who I put in next week as long as they play our game style and present with an attitude to win.

"You can't concern yourself with injuries, because it's out of your hands."
