O’Brien, who was drafted at selection 59, said developing positive working relationships with the team and coaching panel was vital to his overall football development.

“I guess when you walk in to the club, the people there you still really do look up to and idolise but you have to quickly separate that because they’re the people that will be teaching and mentoring you,” O’Brien said

“You do have to start developing working relationships, so I am definitely looking forward to building on that and getting stuck in to it. It’s been great working with the team and coaches so far.”

The tall 18-year-old, who promises to be an exciting, composed forward with an excellent left foot kick said he was focused on settling in to life at Windy Hill with the other new recruits over the pre-season campaign .

“We’re going to focus on the pre-season first and from there, I just want to play my best football at whatever level that may be,” O'Brien said.

“I would obviously love to play senior level football next year, but there is a lot of work to do before that so for now, I’m just excited to be amongst it and training during the pre-season.

“Our time here so far has been great. We’re all settling in and meeting everyone. It’s all very exciting and I’m thrilled to be a part of the club.”
