After impressive performances in recent weeks for the Bendigo Bombers, Henry Slattery has been rewarded and will make his AFL debut this evening against St Kilda at The Dome. Slattery is a late replacement for Dustin Fletcher, who has been unwell for the majority of the week and was subsequently ruled out by medical staff late this afternoon.
Slattery is the fifth Essendon player to make his debut this season. The former West Adelaide player was taken at selection 46 in the 2004 National Draft and is a left footer who has played most of his football on the wing or in the midfield.
Slattery has been a standout performer for the Bendigo Bombers this season playing roles at both ends of the ground and in the midfield. He is likely to start on the bench tonight but could be given a run-with role during the course of the evening.
Essendon ruckman Matthew Allan will undergo surgery next week to remove calcified tissue from around the patella tendon in his left knee. As a result of the surgery Allan will be placed on the long-term injury list and his season is almost certainly over.
