Bomber’s vice-captain, Mark Baguley, found himself in unfamiliar territory in Saturday’s game against the Swans.

Known for his prowess as a defender, Baguley played the entire game as a forward in what could potentially be a smart move.

The speedy backman provided plenty of his trademark pressure while playing in the forward half, laying tackles and physically harassing the opposition.

While he was unable to convert on the scoreboard, there were definitely positive signs for Baguley who had several shots on goal in the 81-point loss.

Another swingman, Mitch Brown, also continued he development as a forward.

Brown started the game strongly moving up the ground and presenting well to his teammates.

He finished the day with 9 marks, 23 disposals and a goal adding to his impressive performance from the week before.

While Coach John Worsfold did not indicate whether both would remain as forwards for the remainder of the year, he was pleased with the flexibility that they offered.

“I was pretty happy with their games,” said Worsfold

“Baguley put pressure on and got some shots on goal which was great.

“Brown is presenting really well for us, so these are both players we’re excited about.”

The Bombers fielded a largely inexperienced forward group who had not had the opportunity to play together too often.

Baguley, Redman, Fantasia and Brown have all only had a handful of games as forwards and will benefit from more time together.

After two consecutive games with only a six day break, Worsfold believes that a full-week off will be important in the preparation for next week’s game against North Melbourne.

“We have a seven day break this week and that does make a difference,” said Worsfold

“I listen to some of the other really mature teams in the competition talk about six day breaks and they’re really conscious about it.

“So two in a row for us probably took its toll, but we get a chance to prepare better this week.”
