The speed that helped propel Alex Morgan into the top 30 of the 2015 National Draft remains, despite hamstring troubles over the last two seasons.
The second year Bombers player is enjoying an injury free pre-season as he looks to land an AFL debut.
Morgan played 10 VFL games and one NAB Challenge fixture during his first 12 months on the list, as the Club took a cautious approach to a hamstring complaint that began in his TAC Cup days.
“It was pretty frustrating but hopefully that’s all behind me now,” Morgan said.
“The hamstring and the body is feeling good so hopefully I can have a good pre-season and take it into the (pre-season games).
“My B4 numbers, which is the high speed running, have been up of late so I just need to incorporate a bit more with the ball and try and get a couple more touches during training.”
Morgan joins in full training for two of the three main sessions each week, but has a lighter load on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in an effort to ensure he’s fully over his hamstring problems.
The former Oakleigh Charger showed no ill-effects during the Club’s first time trial of the pre-season when he was one of the first players to cross the line.
Morgan is training with the defenders at the moment and is expecting tough competition for a spot in the senior side.
“I tried to stick to my program as much as I could over the off-season, so I came back in better shape than last year, so I’m pretty happy,” he said.
“The performance coaches have been good in tailoring a specific program for me.
“We’ve picked up a few half backs now so I think it’s going to be tough for selection but hopefully I can impress in the pre-season and take it into early next year (2017).”
