Essendon Coach John Worsfold says the team’s ambition to become a great Club again won’t change despite the events of this week. 

The premiership coach joined the Bombers last October and set about returning the Club to the finals success it has enjoyed so regularly throughout its history. 

“Our aim is to – which it was three or four months ago anyway – set some really high standards in the way we train and what we hold each other accountable to,” he told SEN.

“That attitude hasn’t changed.” 

Worsfold said he was impressed with the way the players had embraced his program.

“I’ve been rapt with their attitude,” Worsfold told 5AA.

“I can only judge these guys on the short period I’ve been with them and they’ve been outstanding in their attitude to want to develop themselves and become a great Club again.”

Essendon has commenced its search for the ten top up players that will help cover the absence of the 12 suspended players. 

The players not involved in the CAS decision returned to the training track for the first time since the announcement yesterday. 

“It really rocked us all on Tuesday, but the guys that are still around here, we’ve got a big responsibility to help them fulfill their AFL dreams,” Worsfold said.

“We’ve got a big responsibility to our Club which is our members and supporters.

“We’ve got to soldier on.  We’ve got to support the guys that have been really hurt badly by this decision and everyone is putting things in place to do whatever we can to help them through.

“But my control is on developing this team ready to run out and wear the red and black and present ourselves in a brilliant fashion.”
