Matthew Egan had a very different perspective on Saturday’s win over Box Hill.

Egan coached the duration of the game from the interchange bench while assistant coaches Paul Corrigan, Mark Corrigan and Dan Jordan took control of the box.

The Bombers VFL coach said it was all about improving the lines of communications within the team.

“I’ve been talking a lot about communication to our group, I wanted to be there to be the one passing the messages on from the box and listening to the players on the bench talking to each other about what the game looks like,” Egan said.

“It was a really good learning experience for me and I have experienced coaches up in the box that have all coached their own teams so they know what to do.

“We get the benefit of communication on the bench and experience in the box.”

It was the first time the Bombers coach has watched over a game for an extended period on the sidelines in his first season in charge.

“You probably don’t see as much as what you would like over on the far side sometimes you are trying to work out who it was,” he said.

“But you can also yell out things to players and give them instant feedback, often that’s the best form of feedback because they can remember it clearly.”

Egan said he was yet to decide if he would coach from the box or the boundary this Sunday against Geelong at Skilled Stadium.
