Matthew Egan says he's leaving behind a strong VFL coaching group that will help ensure the side remains a force.
After coaching the VFL side this season and heading up player development, Egan informed the club during the week that he will seek a fresh opportunity next season.
But he says the culture that has been created and the great people involved will ensure that the foundation built this season can be added to.
“We did have a lot of first year players, and first and second year VFL players that we want to be here for a long time,” Egan said.
The Bombers VFL list had 10 players that players made their VFL debuts this season.
Experienced players such as Daniel Coghlan, Ben McNiece, Aaron Heppell, Jim Ferry, Sam Heavyside, Josh Freezer and Jack Langford all played the majority of the season.
“They’re all young, they’re all learning and hopefully they come back and be good VFL players again for us, because not only are they good players but they are terrific people and they drive the culture of the VFL program,” Egan said.
Egan’s coaching group included Paul Corrigan (midfield), Mark Corrigan (forwards) and Dan Jordan (backline).
“I’m pretty lucky I’ve had such amazing coaches and great people around me,” Egan said.
“They are really good coaches, great fun and they keep the energy really high.
“They put in a lot of hours, they obviously work full time during the day then we stay at night and do our second job and both are as enjoyable as one another because we make sure it is.”
At the midway point of the season, Egan said the coaching group handed more responsibility to the playing group.
“Mid season we realised that we needed to give more to the players and let them drive the club a little bit harder,” he said.
“The back of the year showed me that you need to make sure the players are having fun and they know what sort of team they want to create. Footy should be fun.”
