The resilience of the playing group is one of the pleasing themes to emerge from the first quarter of the season, according to Coach John Worsfold.
The Bombers fly north to Sydney with one win and five losses from the opening six rounds of the season.
For the most part, the side has remained competitive despite the unprecedented loss of talent three months out from the start of the season.
“The resilience of the group and their endeavor to keep battling away all through games without being disheartened by the scoreboard has been outstanding,” Worsfold said.
“That’s the number one focus for us that we play out every minute of every game at our absolute best.”
The Bombers have matched it with their opposition for significant portions of the games thus far.
But converting time in possession into goals has proved difficult.
The side is ranked 18th for goals scored across the opening six rounds.
“We’d like to find a way to be more consistent on the scoreboard,” Worsfold said.
“We’re having some good quarters and some good halves but then we’re having quarters where we don’t score or don’t kick a goal – so that’s the aim, just to keep building that.
“That stems back to everything – we need to move the ball well out of our back half and try to win some good clearances, so there is challenges all across the field.”
