Nick Kommer’s comeback to the AFL line-up moved a step closer today, when he was named in the Bombers NAB Challenge squad.
The West Australian hasn’t played a senior game in more than two years because of injury.
But he’s featured in the Bombers recent intra-club matches and is in line to run out this Sunday.
“He’s building back to full fitness still,” Worsfold said.
“We’ve had him in a slow pre-season but he’s been coping with the ramp-up of workload.
“In our match-play he’s laid a lot of tackles in the front half of the ground – he looks like he really enjoys doing that.
“But he’s worked hard to find space back inside 50 and had shots at goal as well.
“As a small forward we think he can fill both an offensive and defensive role for us.”
The Bombers have stepped up their match play in recent weeks in preparation for their first competitive hit out.
But Worsfold said this weekend’s match will provide a much better indication of how than side is tracking.
“Their fitness is good, they’re ready for the NAB Challenge now,” Worsfold said.
“That’s why we’re keen to get it going – we’ll get a real feel for how we’re going now against quality opposition.”
The match against Carlton begins at 2:05pm this Sunday.
