Scott Lucas has followed coach Kevin Sheedy’s lead and questioned the accusations Chris Connolly made yesterday that Essendon “bashed up” his side at the Dome in Round 21. ""It's interesting, we're the ones who bash them up, but Medhurst wasreported and Farmer was investigated. But you don't take a lot of notice, there's a game to be won and that's certainly what we're looking to do,” Lucas said.

""You want to try and play hard football, as you do in any finals match - it's been blown out of proportion a fair bit, some of the comments. We probably do go in as slight underdog, they haven't been beaten over there this year and they play a good brand of football. But certainly we got a lot of confidence out of our win against them twoweeks ago.”

Lucas has spent the majority of the season at centre half-back and the new role has definitely agreed with him. The 25-year-old has been in outstanding form and not only stitched up some of the leading centre half-forwards in the competition, but also given the team drive out of defence. His long kicking has helped the team move the ball out of the backline on a number of occasions.

Lucas is enjoying his new role in defence and the challenges it throws up. ""After playing in the forward line for the first seven or eight years, it's something I've enjoyed. I've been able to work with Welly and Fletch and I've learnt a lot,” the premiership played said.

""Certainly the backline offers some different challenges and differentways to look at the game. I certainly wasn't playing great football when I went down there last year. This year, it just more a match-up, positioning, a couple of times wherehe wanted me down there and I've sort of stayed there since.”

Lucas is out of contract at the end of the season, but he is more concerned about finals football than worrying about contract negotiations at this time of the year. ""It's something that I think we'll wait until the season is over and sit down and work it out. I certainly hope there won't be any problems,” Lucas said.
